Summary

The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey conducted a study on the hydrostratigraphy of west-central Wisconsin to develop a new approach to groundwater management. The project, which took place from July 1, 2004, to June 30, 2005, aimed to identify and compile relevant hydrostratigraphic data, review data quality, synthesize existing data, and identify major data gaps. The study focused on the Cambrian-Ordovician strata within Pierce, St. Croix, and Dunn Counties, and involved compiling data from state agencies, municipalities, and other sources. The results included the estimation of hydraulic conductivity values from specific capacity tests for over 8,000 well logs, and the identification of 16 contaminated site investigations with useful hydrostratigraphic data. The study found that the bedrock in the region is lithologically and hydraulically diverse, forming a complex sequence of aquifers and confining units, and that a detailed hydrostratigraphic model is needed to understand groundwater occurrence and flow.
