Summary

Between 9/11/2014 to 3/12/2014, the RRS Discovery sailed for a research cruise (DY018) as part of the NERC and DEFRA funded Shelf Sea Biogeochemistry (SSB) research programme. A T-F chain with temperature and fluorescence logging instruments was towed from 09:43 17/11/14 to 17:07 19/11/14 at the Celtic Sea shelf edge to capture data related to cross-shelf exchange. The experiment aimed to clarify, measure, and monitor processes leading to cross-shelf transport, including fluxes in the BBL, with a high temporal resolution of 30 seconds. The towed T-F chain had 33 instruments attached, and the data was calibrated against 10 CTD casts. The recovery of the chain noted several issues, including erroneous placement and loss of some instruments.
