Summary

Demand for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft is increasing due to traffic congestion in urban areas. e-VTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) UAM aircraft are being developed for commercialization, requiring airworthiness certification. Factors threatening safe operation of UAM aircraft include lightning strikes and icing, which can cause structural damage and disrupt navigation systems. Current certification technology for UAM aircraft is insufficient, necessitating the development of appropriate airworthiness certification guidelines. This study analyzes laws and regulations related to aircraft by the FAA and EASA, incorporating lightning and icing certification guidelines for UAM aircraft, and presents a basis for establishing practical guidelines for UAM aircraft certification.
