Summary

Erie MetroParks' mission is to conserve natural resources while connecting the community with nature. The East Sandusky Bay MetroPark, a 1,370-acre collection of smaller parks, contains most of the east part of Sandusky Bay, a naturally functioning freshwater coastal marsh in Ohio. The park features rare plants, including Bushy Cinquefoil and Wapato, and provides critical food and sanctuary for numerous species, including migratory birds. The park is part of the Lake Erie Birding Trail and includes several smaller parks, such as Community Foundation Preserve at Eagle Point, Joseph Steinen Wildlife Area, Putnam Marsh Nature Preserve, Wyandot Wetland Meadows Preserve, and Barnes Addition. Management strategies include controlled burns, maintenance of fire lanes, and protection of high-quality coastal wetland resources.
