Summary

Electricity is a secondary energy source, generated from the conversion of primary sources like coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear power, and other natural sources. It is a controllable and convenient form of energy used in applications of heat, light, and power. The science of electricity involves the movement of electrons from one atom to another, with atoms being the building blocks of the universe, made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Electricity can be static, like the shock from touching an object after walking on a carpet, or it can be generated through magnets, batteries, and electric generators. Magnets have a magnetic field created by the spinning of electrons, and can be used to make electricity by moving magnetic fields to pull and push electrons. Batteries produce electricity through a chemical reaction between two different metals in a chemical solution, and electricity travels in circuits, doing work as it flows through a wire to a load, such as a lightbulb.
