Summary

The PPPL lithium granular injector, a high-speed rotating impeller-based device, has been developed for various applications. Primarily, it induces ELMs (Edge Localized Modes) in H-mode plasmas. The injector can also operate as a real-time wall conditioning tool or resupply Li during a discharge. It can inject spherical particles up to 1.3 mm in diameter at velocities up to 100 m/s. The injector has been successfully installed on the EAST tokamak in Hefei, China, where ELMs were induced with near 100% efficiency using 0.7 mm spheres injected at 40 m/s into the midplane SOL. Supporting data for ELM triggering will be presented.
