Summary

Researchers studied the gamma-ray binary LS I +61 303 using low-frequency radio observations from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) and the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR), detecting the source for the first time at 150 MHz. They found orbital modulation in the light-curves at 150, 235, and 610 MHz, with superorbital variability at 235 and 610 MHz. Comparing these light-curves to contemporaneous 15-GHz data showed differences, with clear outbursts at 15 GHz and variability with wide maxima at low frequencies. The researchers modeled the shifts between maxima at different frequencies, obtaining expansion velocities close to the stellar wind velocity, and suggesting either free-free absorption or synchrotron self-absorption as the cause.
