Summary

Sedum telephium is a long-day plant that requires days of at least 17 hours to reach the flowering stage. The plant's leafy shoots are annual and produce a single terminal inflorescence. An experiment was conducted using plant cuttings from a single population of tetraploid S. telephium, grown in short-day (SD) or long-day (LD) conditions at different temperatures. The results showed that LD plants had inflorescences and were in flower, while SD plants had stopped growing and did not have inflorescences. The leaves of LD plants were larger and more succulent than those of SD plants. SD treatment prevented floral induction but stimulated hibernation and root growth. The optimum temperature for LD plants was around 20°C.
