Increased-relief physical weathering controls the percentages of quartz, plagioclase, and other minerals, while low-relief chemical weathering controls kaolinite and gibbsite. The Amazon River's geochemistry is dominated by the Andean mountainous environment, with 84% of dissolved salts and suspended solids eroded from this region.
