Seashore paspalum is a warm-season grass with excellent tolerance to saline or recycled water, requiring relatively low fertility and pesticide inputs. However, it has heightened sensitivity to many common herbicides and is prone to increased thatch production when over-fertilized and over-irrigated. A research project aims to evaluate seashore paspalum germplasm under saline and non-saline irrigation, determine the influence of verticutting frequency and depth on thatch accumulation, and assess tolerance to herbicides under saline irrigation. The project, which started in 2003 and will last for three years, has a total funding of $32,712 and involves various seashore paspalum cultivars, including 'Salam,' 'Sea Isle 2000,' 'SI99,' 'SI98,' 'SeaMist,' 'Seadwarf,' 'Seagreen,' and 'Sea Isle I.' Despite weather complications, the research has shown promising results, with seashore paspalum rooting well and producing significant stolon and rhizome growth.
