Researchers synthesized new branched polyesters through trans-esterification reactions between germylated fatty tri-esters or tri-alcohols and polyglycols or dimethyl terephthalate. The reactions occurred at moderate temperatures (140-190°C) and yielded four branched polyesters with different physical properties. The polyesters were characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR, 13C CP MAS NMR, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The results showed that the polyesters are insoluble in classic organic solvents due to their polydimensional structure and do not exhibit any crystallinity phase. Thermal decomposition occurred above 300°C. The study aimed to explore the potential of fatty compounds in producing biocompatible, cost-effective, and biodegradable polymeric materials. The synthesized branched polyesters may have applications in catalysis, as additives, or as new film materials due to their unique macromolecular organization and potential to form interesting cavities.
