Summary

A study on molluscan diversity in Ramsagar reservoir, India, from March 2003 to April 2005, recorded 13 species of molluscs, with 12 species belonging to class Gastropoda and one to class Pelecypoda. The dominant species was Vivipara dissimilis, and the density of Gastropods ranged from 48 to 251 org/m2. The physico-chemical characteristics of the water indicated a moderate positive correlation between gastropods and parameters like electrical conductivity, pH, and total alkalinity, while pelecypods were positively correlated with parameters like electrical conductivity, total alkalinity, and phosphates. A moderate negative correlation existed between mollusc population and free carbon dioxide in the water.
