Summary

This study used Hayman's diallel analysis to estimate genetic parameters and analyze the inheritance of traits related to papaya fruit production and quality. Eight papaya lines were crossed to obtain 56 hybrids, which were evaluated for traits such as number of commercial fruits, fruit weight, fruit yield, firmness, soluble solids content, and pulp thickness. The results showed that the number of commercial fruits, firmness, and soluble solids content had no significant effect in the sufficiency tests of the additive-dominant model, indicating partial dominance between alleles. The study found that additive components were more important than dominance effects for these traits, and that recessive alleles increased the mean value of number of marketable fruits and firmness, while dominant alleles increased the mean value of soluble solids content. The findings provide valuable information for the implementation of future papaya breeding programs.
