The refinery previously used gas chromatography analysis of grab samples to detect leaks, but this method is prone to missing upsets and is time-consuming. A Turner Designs TD-4100 series monitor with a BTEX optical filter kit was installed to continuously detect and measure dissolved aromatic hydrocarbons, including xylene, in steam condensate, providing uninterrupted leak detection and allowing for prompt mechanical repair and protection of downstream processes.
