Summary

Heavy metals pose a serious danger to human health, and their removal from wastewater is crucial. Biosorption using locally collected green macro algae is a cost-effective and eco-friendly method for removing copper, chromium, and cadmium from synthetic wastewater. The algae were converted into dry powder and used as a biosorbent, achieving removal efficiencies of 70% for copper, 80% for chromium, and 85% for cadmium from an initial concentration of 10 mg/L. The effects of pH, mixing speed, and contact time on biosorption efficiency were investigated, and the results showed that the optimal conditions for heavy metal removal were achieved at a pH of 5.4, with a removal percentage of 70% for Cu(II).
