Summary

Essential oil from nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) was extracted and evaluated for hepatotoxic activity in mice. The oil was administered orally at 500 and 1000 mg/kg for 7 days, and liver function tests, including SGPT, SGOT, SALP, and TSB, were conducted. Results showed significant elevation in liver enzymes and TSB in a dose-dependent manner, indicating hepatotoxicity. Histopathological examination revealed liver damage, suggesting that nutmeg essential oil has potential toxicity to the liver parenchyma.
