Het klimaat verandert, Nederland moet zich aanpassen en gemeenten moeten ervoor zorgen dat een (her)inrichting van een straat of wijk klimaatbestendig is. Voor hitte is nog niet duidelijk wat er moet gebeuren, maar het is zorgelijk omdat hitte kan leiden tot extra sterfte en een onaangenaam leven in de stad. Dit rapport richt zich op het hittebestendig inrichten van de buitenruimte, waar nog veel kennis ontbreekt. Een consortium van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Wageningen Environmental Research en Tauw heeft onderzocht hoe gemeenten inzicht kunnen krijgen in hun hitteopgave en welke maatregelen effectief zijn. Het onderzoek concludeert dat de hitteopgave gezien kan worden als dat wat je moet doen om de stad en vooral de buitenruimte leefbaar en comfortabel te houden met het oog op hitte.
