Summary

This study evaluated the environmental situation and vegetation in the Msallata reserve in Libya. Over two years, 368 plant species from 223 genera and 58 families were collected and classified. The vegetation consisted of 80.1% herbs, 16.3% shrubs, and 3.6% trees. A new plant species, Bupleurum gibrataricum, was discovered, and 15 species were collected for the first time in the North Western part of the country. The soil was found to be non-saline with a pH range of 8.3-8.6 and low organic matter content. The most dominant species was Stipa tenacissima, and the reserve was characterized by a high level of vegetation intensity, reaching 78% in some areas. The study aimed to survey and classify the plants, study the environment, and determine the composition of vegetation in the reserve.
