Summary

Law faces, which are artificial slopes created during the construction of civil engineering facilities and buildings, are often actively greened to prevent erosion and improve the landscape. However, the use of non-native plant species can lead to genetic disruption and loss of local genetic diversity. In Japan, the use of native plant species is recommended, but the high cost of domestic seeds and the lack of knowledge about genetic regionalism have led to the use of foreign seeds. Research has shown that foreign seeds can introduce different genes and disrupt the local ecosystem. To address this issue, it is necessary to ensure the traceability of native plant seeds and to promote the use of regional seeds that are genetically suitable for the local environment. This can be achieved by conducting nationwide surveys to identify genetic regionalism, recording the production and distribution of seeds, and confirming the genetic identity of the seeds. Additionally, research is needed to develop methods for evaluating the genetic diversity of seed collections and to promote the use of native plant species in greening projects.
