Summary

The impact of the acquisition time-window on whole-body PET parametric imaging was assessed, with a focus on FDG tracers. A sliding acquisition time-window of 35 minutes was shifted along an extended scan period of 0-90 minutes post-injection, using real patient kinetic data and realistic 4D simulations. The results showed that both standard and generalized Patlak methods resulted in enhanced tumor-to-background contrast and contrast-to-noise ratios with minimal bias at an early acquisition time window (10-45 minutes post-injection), with the generalized method exhibiting superior performance. The choice of the optimal time-window was found to be critical, and the generalized Patlak method, which accounts for tracer uptake reversibility, was proposed for more quantitative estimation of Ki parametric images.
