Summary

De tennisbond KNLTB wil een nieuw ratingsysteem voor het dubbelspel, waarin elke wedstrijd telt, ook als spelers in niveau verschillen. Het huidige systeem kan leiden tot minpunten bij een gewonnen wedstrijd, wat ongewenst is. De KNLTB heeft de Studiegroep Wiskunde met de Industrie gevraagd om een nieuw systeem te ontwikkelen. De wiskundigen hebben het elorating- en glickosysteem onderzocht, die geschikt zijn voor het enkelspel, en hebben deze systemen aangepast voor het dubbelspel. Ze hebben een aanpak ontwikkeld waarbij de persoonlijke rating van de spelers in één team wordt gecombineerd tot één gezamenlijke rating, en na de wedstrijd wordt de nieuwe teamrating weer opgesplitst in twee individuele ratings. De wiskundigen hebben geconcludeerd dat het gemiddelde van twee ratings een behoorlijk goede voorspeller van de uitslag is, ook als het niveauverschil tussen twee spelers in één team groot is.
