Summary

Insulating glazings with low-emissivity coatings consist of flat glass with multiple thin layers, including a conductive layer, to increase infrared reflectance while maintaining high visible transmittance. Atom probe tomography is used to characterize the layers and interfaces, allowing 3D chemical analysis at the atomic level. The study explores the possibilities of APT for analyzing glazing stacks, evaluating preparation and acquisition protocols, and discussing discrepancies and limitations. Results show that Ni diffuses into the Ag layer via grain boundaries, even in the as-deposited state, which is crucial for low-E glass applications.
