Summary

The International Workshop on the Retrieval and Use of Land Surface Temperature: Bridging the Gaps was held on 7-9 April 2008, with over 50 participants from 29 institutions and 8 countries. The workshop aimed to review the state of the science of land surface temperature estimates, specify user community requirements, and identify gaps between the two. Top issues for the LST community research agenda include building a compendium of LST and emissivity products, assessing the accuracy of LST products, intercomparing different products, and standardizing in situ and remote sensing data collection procedures and metadata. The workshop identified 13 key issues to be addressed, including improving compatibility between land surface models and remotely sensed products, creating a web portal for the LST community, and demonstrating the usefulness of LST versus air temperature for operational systems.
