Le projet MARFOREST a étudié la faisabilité de cultures maraîchères en verger d'abricotier et d'amandier biologique. Les résultats montrent un effet positif du maraîchage sur le développement végétatif des arbres, une maîtrise de l'enherbement et une biodiversité accrue. Cependant, l'ombrage des arbres peut avoir un effet négatif sur les cultures maraîchères les plus proches. Les rendements des cultures maraîchères estivales et hivernales varient en fonction des conditions climatiques et de l'ombrage. Le projet a également montré une augmentation du temps de travail, mais avec une possibilité d'embauche permanente due à la répartition du temps de travail sur l'année. Les résultats économiques sont prometteurs, avec une augmentation du chiffre d'affaire et une réduction de l'indice de fréquence de traitement (IFT).
