Summary

Mastitis occurred in 4 out of 5 cows in the control group, but not in the treatment group, with a significant difference in incidence rate (P<0.05). Milk yield and composition were not affected, but the linear score of somatic cell count was significantly lower in the treatment group at 2 months after delivery (P<0.05). Blood parameters showed no significant differences between the groups. The results suggest that supplementation with a microbial product from the dry period to the early lactation period can prevent mastitis during the high-risk postpartum period.
