Summary

Molecular structure analysis in a photo-excited state by single crystal diffractometry is extremely interesting, but has not been carried out due to difficulties such as low concentration of excited state molecules and heating of the crystal. To overcome these challenges, an extremely small crystal with dimension of µm and cooling as low as possible are necessary. Preliminary experiments using a vacuum X-ray camera with an imaging plate detector and 30 keV X-ray beam were conducted, resulting in reduced background noise and observation of weak diffuse streaks in a halogen-bridged mixed-valence diplatinum complex, indicating ordering of the Pt(II) and Pt(III) along the linear chain.
