Method:

114 university students participated in three visits. On the first visit, they learned the CMJ technique and experienced WBV. On the second visit, they performed three consecutive CMJs with one-minute rest intervals, showing no significant differences between jumps. On the third visit, they received a single short bout of WBV and immediately performed three more CMJs.

Procedure:

Participants were randomly allocated to five groups with different WBV protocols (frequency and duration). The vibration amplitude was fixed at ± 3 mm for all groups. The time on the vibrating platform varied in three positions: isometric squat, dynamic half squats, or standing on the toes.

Results:

CMJ performance significantly decreased immediately after WBV exposure (p < 0.001), with no significant differences among the five WBV protocols. Performance recovered to pre-vibration levels one and two minutes after WBV. The authors conclude that WBV combined with voluntary contractions is not an effective warm-up method for vertical jump activities, requiring at least a one-minute recovery period.

Conclusion:

Based on these findings, whole-body vibration should not be used as a warm-up routine directly before maximal CMJ performance due to its adverse effects.
