- Climate Change Impact: Over the last 60 years, Mongolia's annual mean air temperature has increased by 1.66°C, with winter temperatures rising by 3.61°C. This has led to shifts in ice phenology (3-30 days earlier freeze-up and break-up dates), reduced ice cover duration, and decreased maximum ice thickness from the 1960s to 2000.
- Monitoring and Data: The National Agency for Meteorology, Hydrology, and Environment Monitoring oversees a network of about 120 gauging sites at more than 70 rivers. The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (IMN) analyzes the observed data.
- Selected Rivers and Lakes: Table 1 lists 17 rivers and lakes with their respective ice regime characteristics, including average ice freeze-up and break-up dates, ice cover duration, and maximum ice thickness.
