La classe dei Nematorrinchia, come gruppo indipendente dai Rotiferi, è stata iniziata da Bütschli nel 1876 e suddivisa in due sottordini e famiglie. Le specie trovate durante le mie ricerche, che sono anche le prime rappresentanti conosciuti di questo ordine in Sud America, sono descritte secondo la classificazione sistematica di C. Zelinka. La famiglia Ichthydinidae Zel. è caratterizzata da corpi squamati o non squamati, con o senza spine. La famiglia Dasydytidae è caratterizzata da corpi allungati e appiattiti, con o senza spine. La famiglia Gosseidae è caratterizzata da corpi cilindrici e allungati, con o senza spine. Le specie di queste famiglie sono descritte in dettaglio, con particolare attenzione alle loro caratteristiche anatomiche e morfologiche.
