- Purpose: To study new particle formation (NPF) at the summit of Mt. Fuji, focusing on the role of ions and nano-particles.

- Method: Combined use of Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) and Neutral cluster and Air Ion Spectrometer (NAIS) for simultaneous measurement of ions, nano-particles, and super-microparticles.

- Findings:
- High concentrations of super-microparticles (>10 nm) were observed more frequently at night (21:00-00:00 JST) than during the day, similar to observations in 2009.
- No growth of ions (0.4-2.5 nm) and nano-particles (2.5-10 nm) was observed during these high-concentration events, suggesting that these particles were not formed via ion-induced nucleation or were formed elsewhere and transported to the observation point.
- On August 5, a sudden increase in ion concentration and growth of particles were observed during the day, indicating that NPF might have occurred in situ. This event was not typical of the Leonard effect, which is usually observed under fair-weather conditions.

- Future work: Further analysis is planned to compare gas composition, weather conditions, and larger aerosol concentrations to better understand NPF conditions.

Description

Klimaatverandering wordt veroorzaakt door stoffen als CO2, maar ook kleine deeltjes in de lucht (luchtdeeltjes) spelen een rol bij de klimaatverandering.
