Summary

The investigation aimed to create a new index of noise levels in Japan, providing residents with easily understandable information about noise levels in their daily lives. The study, conducted by the Noise Investigation Subcommittee, involved 2383 measurements across various locations, including residential areas, commercial districts, and transportation facilities. The results showed that noise levels in residential areas were relatively stable, with an average of 43-45 dB during the day and 38-39 dB at night. However, noise levels in mountainous areas were significantly lower, at 38 dB during the day and 30 dB at night. The study also found that noise levels in commercial districts and near transportation facilities were higher, with an average of 66-71 dB. The investigation used a unified measurement method and evaluated noise levels using the equivalent continuous sound level (LAeq). The results will be used to create a new "noise index" that provides residents with a better understanding of noise levels in their daily lives.
