Summary

Researchers investigated spalling damage in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) using X-ray computed tomography. UHPC samples were subjected to dynamic tensile loading via a spalling technique, resulting in complex damage patterns. The samples were scanned before and after the test to analyze the damage pattern and relate it to the microstructure. The results showed a large number of fractures that could not be seen with classical observation of the external face. The study aimed to improve the knowledge of damage mechanisms occurring under impact in UHPC.
