Summary

Haidomyrmecinae stat. nov.) from mid-Cretaceous amber of northern Myanmar. Four new genera and five new species are described from specimens preserved in mid-Cretaceous amber: Dhagnathos autokrator gen. et sp. nov., Chonidris insolita gen. et sp. nov., Aquilomyrmex huangi gen. et sp. nov., Protoceratomyrmex revelatus gen. et sp. nov., and Linguamyrmex brevicornis sp. nov. A new subfamilial rank for hell ants is proposed based on recent phylogenetic analyses. The mouthparts and cranial features of these ants display morphological syndromes likely related to specialized prey capture, underscoring the extensive radiation of adaptive forms early in ant evolution.
