Summary

Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is a herb with increasing importance in Kenya, but its leaf productivity is limited by nitrogen and phosphorus deficiencies in the soil, as well as irregular rainfall. An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus, and watering regimes on the growth and leaf yield of sage. The results showed that applying nitrogen at 80 kg N/ha, phosphorus at 60 kg P/ha, and watering once every two weeks resulted in the highest plant height and leaf fresh yield. The study suggests that these practices could improve sage production in Kenya, but an economic evaluation is needed before they can be recommended.
