Summary

A cell size- and cell cycle-aware stochastic model predicts time-dynamic gene network activity in individual cells. The model focuses on the GAL network, which transitions between OFF and ON states based on the concentrations of regulatory proteins. The functional form of the network activity is derived from the interactions of the network components, including Gal4p, Gal80p, Gal1p, and Gal3p. The level of network activity is represented as a fraction of the maximum activity, and the equation is simplified to a functional form. The phenotypic switching rates between the OFF and ON states are characterized experimentally and through model-based simulations. The experimental characterization involves extracting switching rates from data using a 2-state model, while the model-based characterization calculates switching rates from simulation logs.
