Summary

Subak is a traditional irrigation system in Bali, recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage since 2012. The government of Denpasar City has introduced ecotourism within subak areas to preserve the culture and increase farmers' income. A study was conducted in Subak of Sembung to identify problems encountered in ecotourism development and describe extension techniques used. The study found problems in production, tourism education, and business management, and suggested empowerment of subak to overcome these issues. Extension techniques, such as direct extension and training activities, were carried out to improve crop production and tourism education, and to strengthen farmers' capacity in business management. The study recommended better synergy between subak, ecotourism managers, and traditional villages to ensure sustainability, and government support for ecotourism activities through promotion.
