Summary

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) cytotoxicity in MCF-7 cancer cells is potentiated by combining it with specific antioxidant inhibitors, including disulphonated aluminium phthalocyanine photosensitizer and inhibitors of superoxide dismutase, glutathione synthesis, and catalase. The greatest potentiation of cell death was seen with combinations of L-buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) and other inhibitors, resulting in increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and apoptosis.
