Summary

Researchers created a new type of integrated metasurface interferometry, allowing for the mapping of fields with deep subwavelength resolution (~λ/100), and observed features similar to those found near resonant plasmonic nanoparticles or nanoholes in superoscillatory optical fields, including giant wavevectors, vortices, and energy backflow zones, revealing an analogy between plasmonic nanofocusing of evanescent waves and superoscillatory nanofocusing of free-space waves.
