Summary

This study investigates the interplay between local magnetic reconnection physics and global field geometry using two-fluid simulations with the NIMROD extended MHD code. Focusing on the Magnetic Reconnection Experiment (MRX) and Swarthmore Spheromak Experiment (SSX), we analyze:


MRX: The effects of toroidicity, electron outflow region shape, and downstream pressure on reconnection. We highlight the role of pressure gradients from reconnection outflows in communicating local and global scales. Counter-helicity push reconnection reveals a radial shift in the current sheet and asymmetric outflows consistent with experimental observations (Inomoto et al., 2006).

SSX: Simulations of counter-helicity spheromak merging in prolate and oblate flux conservers, examining the impact of geometry and two-fluid effects on reconnection.

The research underscores the significance of two-fluid dynamics in shaping global magnetic field evolution during magnetic reconnection processes.
