Summary

The authors thank Reviewer 1 for their comments and provide a point-by-point response. Changes were made to the manuscript, including corrections to "Sea-Surface Salinity" and "Sea Surface Salinity (SSS)", removal of a statement regarding "locally isotropic", and clarification on the vertical grid setup. Definitions were added for GGL (Gaspar-Gregoris-Lefevre) and NBC (Natural Boundary Conditions). Details were provided for "iso-neutral mixing" and "residual mean velocity". The initial conditions and surface forcings for ECCOv4 were clarified, and changes were made to equations and figures, including the removal of Eq. 7 and switching of Figure 8 and Figure S6.
