Summary

Seasonal outlooks indicate a nearly equal chance of a drier or wetter season across NSW from February to April, with a slightly reduced chance of exceeding median rainfall in central and southern areas. Warmer than normal daytime temperatures are likely in the south east, and warmer overnight temperatures are likely in the south and mid north coast. The Pacific Ocean remains in a neutral ENSO state, with a 91% chance of neutral conditions over February to April. The Southern Oscillation Index has dropped slightly, and the Indian Ocean Dipole remains neutral. The Southern Annular Mode index has been weakly negative since mid-December and is expected to be weakly positive in early to mid-February. January saw below average rainfall in 49% of NSW, low soil moisture, and poor pasture growth across most of the state.
