Summary

The Semantic Web journal has implemented a non-standard review process featuring open and transparent reviews. Due to the unavailability of suitable manuscript review systems, the journal used a commercial review management system and a public website, resulting in significant overhead. A new custom review system was developed using Drupal, integrating the review system with the journal's website, and went online in October 2012. The system allows authors to submit papers directly via the website, and reviewers and editors interact directly with the website. The journal plans to embed Semantic Web technologies in 2013 to support new types of queries over the journal's dataset. This issue features three papers, including two surveys and a vision paper on investigating order for reasoning in the Big Data age. The development of the new review system was supported by the State of Ohio Research Incentive grant and IOS Press.
