Summary

This study simulates and compares X-ray spectra in diagnostic radiography using five computer codes: IPEM 78, SpekPy, Xpecgen, SPEKTR 3.0, and EGSnrc Monte Carlo. The codes were used to generate X-ray spectra at 70, 80, and 90 kVp, and the results were compared with measurements and the IPEM report No.78. The Half-Value Layer (HVL), mean energy (Emean), and Air kerma per mAs (Kair/mAs) were measured and compared with the simulated values, showing good agreement. The anode heel effect and target material composition were also evaluated. The results showed that SpekPy produced X-ray spectra in the best agreement with IPEM report No.78, while Xpecgen, Spektr 3.0, and EGSnrc MC showed lower K-peaks intensity for 80 and 90 kVp. The study concluded that the five codes and physical measurements were well-matched for HVL, Emean, and Kair/mAs.
