Summary

On-site characterization method for emerging semi-volatile compounds emitted by materials, applied to indoor air quality in sports halls, focuses on phthalates, flame retardants, and pesticides, which have adverse health effects, including endocrine disruption, reproductive disorders, and cancer. Existing methods for measuring gaseous concentration at material surface (y0) are not suitable for on-site measurement. A new method using Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Midget On-Site Emission Cell (MOSEC) allows for easy on-site measurement, but quantification is challenging. The method was applied to PVC floorings, detecting DiBP, DBTP, and benzoate esters, with DBTP and benzoate esters reported as phthalate alternatives.
