This method guarantees moving a minimum forward by many months, and can create a minimum where there isn't one, erase a real minimum, or turn a peak into a trough. Examples are provided to demonstrate how smoothing affects the data, showing that longer smooths result in later minima, and that the smoothed line always runs above the actual data on a falling line.
