The structure of the system for collecting, processing, displaying, and accumulating sonar information for underwater research includes a combination of technical means, software, and a scientifically grounded method of using them for detection and inspection of underwater objects and the adjacent bottom of the water area. The system consists of an interface module, a personal computer (PC) with peripherals, real-time software, a semitone recorder, a quality inkjet or laser printer, and a navigation PC. The system should provide real-time accumulation and display of sonar and navigation information, and allow for the collection, processing, and analysis of data. The system's structure is based on several principles, including minimal specialized hardware, maximum digital conversion, real-time display of sonar and navigation information, and synchronization with Greenwich time GPS. The system has been realized in the Laboratory of Hydrolocation of the Bottom of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LOH IO RAN) and has been used for research on the bottom, underwater potentially dangerous objects, and ecological research.
