Summary

Researchers investigated the chemical states of trace-level strontium adsorbed on layered oxide (mica) using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy under total reflection conditions. The results showed that the chemical bond between ultra-trace amounts of strontium and mica is more polarized and ionically bonded compared to thicker layers, with the Sr 2p3/2 peak energy decreasing almost in proportion to the decrease in thickness. Similar energy shifts were observed in XANES spectra, supporting the conclusion that the chemical bond is more polarized for trace-level strontium.
