It aims to identify strategies to achieve ambitious targets for the 2050 horizon by integrating passive, BIPV, and active strategies into the design process. The study presents a multi-criteria evaluation in terms of Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Cost (LCC) of different renovation and energy-use scenarios, with an emphasis on testing the impact of a proposed selection process of BIPV surfaces to maximize self-consumption and self-sufficiency. The methodology involves four main phases: selection of archetypal residential buildings, detailed analysis of each building, development of architectural renewal scenarios, and multi-criteria assessment of the scenarios. The paper presents the results of the assessment through the comparison of two real case studies, providing architects and engineers with advanced BIPV renovation strategies depending on the building typology, architectural design goals, and level of intervention.
