Summary

Two experimental methods for evaluating 220Rn homogeneity in calibration chambers are proposed: one based on capturing thoron decay products in silica aerogel and subsequent liquid scintillation counting, and another based on measuring the density of tracks formed by 220Rn and 216Po in solid state nuclear track detectors. The methods were applied during a thoron calibration exercise at the BACCARA chamber, showing that thoron inhomogeneity is less than 10% at the center of the chamber, but regions near the walls and upper part have higher concentrations, up to 60% higher than the reference point.
