Summary

Colorado potato beetles are a common pest in New York, with two generations per season, and can develop resistance to many insecticides. To avoid resistance, rotate insecticide use, especially neonicotinoids, which are losing efficacy due to resistance. A good rotation program includes not relying exclusively on neonicotinoids, avoiding their use late in the season, and limiting their use to once every two years in non-rotated fields. Examples of insecticide rotations for CPB control are provided.
